Sylvain Degolmal Ngaryo is a former Fellow at the Energy for Growth Hub. His background spans both public and private in the energy sector (renewables and fossil). He is a principal energy policy officer in charge of international cooperation at the African Energy Commission (AFREC), the specialized energy agency of the African Union (AU), which is the premier political and developmental organization of 55 African countries. In this role at AFREC, Sylvain is in charge of policies development, technical advisory, partnerships engagement, programs management, projects implementation, capacity building, and resource mobilization through international cooperation to promote sustainable energy solutions and infrastructure for the industrial development of Africa while accelerating energy transition towards a decarbonized future in Africa.
Prior to this, Sylvain was the project manager for the Geothermal Risk Mitigation Facility (GRMF), a $115- million initiative led by the AU and funded by KfW, DFID (FCDO), European Union – African Union Infrastructure Trust Fund to de-risk the early stage of the exploration phases and expand the development of geothermal in twelve East Africa Rift Systems countries. He holds an Executive Master’s in Public Policy and Development Management with a major in African Studies from Sciences Po (The Paris School of Political Studies) and a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Felix Houphouet Boigny National Polytechnique Institute (Cote d’Ivoire). His main topics of interest are energy transition, energy infrastructure & finance, and climate change.
