Quality electricity is critical to ending energy poverty, but reliability data is scarce, while officially-reported outages often differ greatly from actual consumer experience. New approaches can help fill the data gaps. The Real-time Electricity Supply and Quality tracker (RESQ) is a pilot project using low-cost sensors to gather real-time data on power supply in major African cities.
EED Advisory’s Murefu Barasa presented the project and its first-ever data during a coffee break briefing on June 10, 2021.
