Oluwagbemisola (Gbemi) Akinsipe is a Fellow at the Energy for Growth Hub and an incoming Young Professional in the Energy and Extractives Global Practice at the World Bank. She is completing a Ph.D. in Energy and Resources at the University of California, Berkeley, where her research explores how electricity unreliability shapes Nigeria’s energy transition and contributes to broader debates on sustainable and equitable transitions in African economies. She previously worked in the Office of the Vice President of Nigeria as part of the inaugural team implementing Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan, where she led research and stakeholder engagement across key energy sectors, including power, cooking, and transport. Her experience spans natural gas pipeline design, energy policy modeling, and electricity demand analysis in both Nigeria and California. She also supports powering healthcare and climate-resilient infrastructure efforts across Africa. Gbemi is currently leading an initiative to build the most extensive dataset on electricity unreliability in Nigeria, coordinating stakeholders across government, utilities, academia, and the private sector. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Covenant University, Nigeria, and a Master’s degree in Energy and Resources from UC Berkeley.
