This Coffee Break Briefing launched our new data for tracking electricity consumption everywhere. Stephen Lee, the Hub’s Director of Analytics, pioneered a new machine learning approach that will allow, for the first time, building-level estimates and consumption distribution data.
We introduced the 1,000 kWh Modern Energy Minimum as the second step on the energy ladder, after initial household access. The Minimum includes at least 250 kWh per person at home, but measuring this was impossible — until now. In this Coffee Break Briefing on 11/13/2024, Stephen and host Grace Tamble presented the model and initial estimates for Africa.
