Susanna Berkouwer is a Hub Fellow, and an Assistant Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy at the Wharton School, teaching Managerial Economics in the Wharton MBA program. Susanna’s research employs economic tools and methods to study environmental and energy issues in Africa. Their current projects investigate: market failures and behavioral biases in the adoption of energy efficient technologies in Nairobi; the political economy of Kenya’s nationwide rural electrification project; the socio-economic impacts of power outages in Accra; and the impact of temperature changes on electricity use in South Africa. Prior to beginning doctoral studies Susanna worked as a Research Fellow at Harvard University and at NBER, researching environmental regulations and healthcare in India. They hold a PhD from UC Berkeley, an MA in International and Development Economics from Yale University and a BSc Statistics with Economics from the University College London.
